ALUMNI Iowa Career Exploration Network (ICE-Net)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. What is ICE-Net?
Created as a career resource for UI students, the Iowa Career Exploration Network is a terrific way to connect with other Hawkeyes who share similar professional interests. UI alumni have been invited from all fields, professions, and geographic regions to make themselves available to talk about their experiences.

2. Is ICE-Net an employment service?
No! It is important to note that this is an opportunity to gather valuable information and begin making contacts. It is not a job or internship service. When you decide to begin your job search, or to relocate to a different geographic region, having established contacts can certainly help.

3. Who may search the database?
Any registered user of Employment Expo is welcome--and encouraged--to use this service.
Also, any member of the University of Iowa community may volunteer and add their profile to our database.

4. How does the Iowa Career Exploration Network work?
Our database organizes volunteers by occupation, college major, geographic location, and various profile criteria. Select "Search” to scan by these fields. Find or select the criteria that interest you most.

When you find alumni you want to conatct, you will be able to select and contact that individual through the system immediately. Use is limited and monitored.

5. How often can I use ICE-Net?
Volunteers can limit the number of times they are contacted monthly by students. Pomerantz Career Center also limits students to 5 contacts per month to prevent abuse of the system.

6. How do I use the ICE-Net information?
While this database provides contacts for your career development, it is important to remember that the information you collect is only one means of exploring your career options. Be sure to balance your career exploration with other career service resources.

7. What if I don't find anyone I want to contact?
Don't be discouraged if you don't immediately see someone who interests you. The database changes frequently so be sure to check back with us!

8. As a volunteer, what type of questions can I anticipate from undergraduates?
As a volunteer, you can anticipate undergraduates to contact you with questions on your career path, day to day duties, pointers for their job search in your industry, and tips on position openings in your organization. Also, Pomerantz Career Center has provided a guide for informational interviewing.

9. I'm a volunteer - how can I remove/inactivate my information?
