 Think Internships

Experience Iowa Internships
Are you low on cash and looking for a job? Why not work as a paid  intern that can benefit your career path in the Corridor area?

With Experience Iowa, you can work for employers that may not normally be able to have an intern – previous internships have included software development with Bio::Needs, Inc., Marketing for Michael Trains, and graphic design at Van Meter Industrial!

The program provides a stipend covering one-half of the intern's salary with the balance provided by the employer.

To be eligible, students must be undergraduates of at least sophomore status who are enrolled full-time at the UI with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

To find these positions, log on to Expo and from the top menu, select "Jobs", "Job Search", and "Experience Iowa Internship".

Note: There are a few employers still looking for spring interns - check UI Employment Expo for more information!

Dear Ivanna Work

Dear Ivanna Work,

I’ll be finishing with registration for the spring soon, and I have no idea what I want to major in or what type of job I want after graduation! My parents told me that I should take an assessment - what is that?

Sincerely,
Not Sure of Anything

----------

Dear Not Sure,

While taking an assessment can not tell you what to major in or choose as a career; it can provide direction for you and help you identify career areas that may be a good fit for you! It is a great idea!

Self assessment is the first step of the career planning process. It is often conducted with the help of a formal career assessment tool and your career advisor.

A formal career assessment measures your individual values, interests, personality, or skills, and provides information on how these areas relate to potential occupations. There are several available at Pomerantz Career Center:

Interest Inventories —
Questions center around your likes and dislikes regarding various activities and helps relate them to types of work

Values Inventories —
Measure how important different values are to you, values play an important role in job satisfaction

Personality Inventories —
Look at individual traits, motivational drives, needs, and attitudes

Your career advisor will discuss any possible fees for these assessments (all minimal) with you before you take an assessment and which ones are right for you.

Completing a self assessment is a good place to begin exploring careers and majors that might be good fits for you. Talk with your career advisor about what assessment might be best for you!

Sincerely
Ivanna Work
