The Civic Engagement Program (CEP) underscores the role an institution of higher education has as a member of local and statewide communities. We celebrate students and the commitment and strengths they bring to our campus and the community. We support students by enhancing and encouraging their life-long pledge to active citizenship.

Community engagement helps make the connection between content education and civic responsibility and underscores the importance of knowledge in a democratic society. “Civically engaged individuals exhibit dedication, judgment, and an understanding of the consequences of their actions."

What's New?

• Volunteer Fair - Wednesday, January 27, 11am-3pm, Main Lounge, IMU. Over 50 community-based organizations will be on hand to share information with students, faculty and staff about volunteer opportunities and service learning partnerships in the local community and beyond.  Drop by anytime between 11 and 3 to explore opportunities to be of service!  If you have questions, please contact the Civic Engagement Program at 335-7589 or email civic-engagement@uiowa.edu.

• Would you like to volunteer but don’t know where or how to start looking for opportunities? Please complete the Volunteer Interest Profile and check one or more areas of volunteer interest. Once we receive your information, we will contact you to offer resources and guidance on how you can get involved and make a difference.
• Join the Civic Engagement Community Listserv!
  Receive (and share) information about volunteer events, needs and resources. Sign up online (click on "join"), or simply email the Civic Engagement Program and request that you be added!
