After each fair, we ask employers to complete an evaluation and to provide advice for students on how to prepare for the next fair. Here are the responses from the Spring 08 evaluations:
Know what you are interested in and what you want to do with your major. It makes it hard to determine a good fit for our organization when you are "up in the air."
Have your "pitch" tailored better to the specifics of the internship.
Use nice resume paper for your resume.
Maintain a presentable appearance. First impressions matter!
Focus on what will mean the most to you in the long run. Do not look merely at the outside appearance or misconceptions, but the facts of each job. Also look at what an employer has to offer you.
Be organized - have your notes, contacts and information organized.
Research the organizations and different positions available. Know which positions they have available and how you would fit into each position.
Keep an open mind to any possibility!
Participate in lots of internships. This will help you find what you want to do.
Keep networking and meeting people - it's all about connections!
