STUDENTS Undergraduate Scholar Assistant (USA) Program

What steps do I take if I am interested?

  1. Make sure you meet the requirements:
    • Undergraduate student of at least sophomore status
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  2. Go go Honors website to view positions. Positions listed as "inactive" are not currently available, but are listed to give an idea of the kinds of opportunities that can be recognized as USA positions.
  3. If you see an available position that interests you, contact the faculty member directly to apply for it. Alternatively, if you know a tenure-track faculty member who is engaged in research work who might benefit from your assistance, contact him/her and encourage them to contact Honors for instructions to list a USA opportunity. If all goes well, the position (and you!) will be accepted for the program.
  4. When you are hired by the professor, go to Honors. They will ask you to enter your internship information online and complete the required paperwork. We will give you the information you need to officially register the experience so that it appears on your transcript.
  5. You will register your experience as an internship on ISIS or at the Registration Center.
  6. You will be paid a monthly stipend by the University.
  7. Around mid-term of each semester, you will be asked to complete a written evaluation of your experience. (This simple form is completed online via the web.)
